CAMEO-SAM

A doctoral research programme studying severe acute malnutrition across evidence, structural risk and longitudinal treatment decisions.

Role Doctoral researcher and quantitative lead

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Severe acute malnutrition remains a high-consequence clinical and policy problem, while its evidence is split across treatment trials, household surveys and inpatient trajectories.

Approach

Systematic review, causal analysis of population data and planned longitudinal modelling are being developed as one triangulated programme.

Evidence

The review and population-analysis workstreams have defined protocols, reproducible analytical pipelines and explicit causal assumptions.

Boundary

This is active doctoral research. Planned inpatient modelling and final conclusions are not yet complete.

Malawi digital-health systems

An evidence-led policy landscape and interoperability architecture for stronger health-information systems.

Role Researcher and systems architect

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Fragmented policy, governance and technical interfaces make health information difficult to exchange and use reliably.

Approach

Policy evidence mapping, architecture analysis and implementation-focused synthesis connect governance choices to practical system design.

Evidence

A structured evidence corpus, interoperability analysis and publication-oriented package are in development.

Boundary

The work describes evidence and architecture; it does not claim national implementation or institutional endorsement.

Medantir / Actiora

A browser-based intelligence and research workbench spanning discovery, monitoring, analysis and production, with capabilities gated by operating mode.

Role Founder and product architect

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Analysis work is split across disconnected tools — discovery in one place, monitoring in another, evidence handling in a third and the write-up somewhere else. Context and provenance are lost at every handover, and the tool that suits a clinical question rarely suits a humanitarian or statistical one.

Approach

A single client-side workbench organised on three axes: an operating mode that gates which capabilities are available for the work in hand, a surface for each workspace, and a project that binds files, tasks, review state and tooling to one scope. Optional services add server-side retrieval and a closed-loop evidence-review engine for work the browser cannot do alone.

Evidence

A working private codebase covering intelligence, monitoring and early warning, knowledge and evidence review, and operational applications. The systematic-review pipeline runs end to end against live sources with its Boolean compiler, paging and deduplication validated.

Boundary

Access is private and individual surfaces are at different stages of completion. No claim of autonomous scientific adjudication is made, and nothing here replaces an accountable expert deciding.

Ventures Live build As at 2026-07-31

Open Canvas Studio

A local-first editor for creating scientific figures without sending sensitive work to a remote design service.

Role Founder and lead developer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Scientific illustration tools are often inaccessible, difficult to reproduce or unsuitable for sensitive material.

Approach

The editor combines a local-first workspace, reusable scientific components and export-oriented validation.

Evidence

A working application and automated validation suite are maintained locally.

Boundary

Public access and support terms are still being formalised; this is not a regulated clinical product.

Systems Prototype As at 2026-07-31

Climate Intelligence in Health

A climate-informed planning prototype for health supplies, early warning and antimicrobial-resistance decision support.

Role Founder and systems modeller

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Health supply decisions are frequently separated from climate, surveillance and resistance signals that could change preparedness.

Approach

A decision-support prototype explores how these signals can be joined in a transparent planning surface.

Evidence

The system architecture and prototype workflows exist for evaluation and partner discovery.

Boundary

No field-effectiveness or operational deployment claim is made. Pilot validation is the next gate.

Research Exploratory analysis As at 2026-07-31

IAGE biomarker reanalysis

An exploratory reanalysis of biomarkers associated with severe acute malnutrition.

Role Statistical analyst

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Biomarker patterns may help describe biological heterogeneity, but retrospective datasets can easily support claims beyond their design.

Approach

Reproducible statistical reanalysis with explicit separation between association, discrimination and clinical prediction.

Evidence

The analytical pipeline has passed internal scientific checks conditional on the stated design limitations.

Boundary

Retrospective case-control data cannot establish absolute-risk calibration, prospective validity or clinical utility.

CAUSE-MAP

Methods for turning complex causal evidence into inspectable maps and publication-ready decision surfaces.

Role Methodologist and visualisation lead

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Evidence syntheses often flatten causal assumptions, study design and uncertainty into prose that is difficult to inspect.

Approach

Causal structures, evidence provenance and uncertainty are represented visually without replacing expert adjudication.

Evidence

Reusable mapping and figure-production workflows have been developed for research outputs.

Boundary

A causal map organises claims and assumptions; it does not by itself establish causality.

Ventures Validated private system As at 2026-07-31

Vellum

A private design system for reproducible, publication-grade statistical graphics.

Role Founder and system designer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Analytical figures often drift in meaning, style and accessibility when rebuilt manually across projects.

Approach

Contracted visual grammars, semantic design tokens and automated checks make analytical intent explicit.

Evidence

A maintained private R system supports a broad catalogue of validated visual grammars and export paths.

Boundary

The package is private and is demonstrated through outcomes rather than distributed source.

Ventures Working system As at 2026-07-31

Resource Shrimp

A research-resource library for lawful retrieval, project collections, grounded question answering and reusable searches.

Role Founder and lead developer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Research assets, search strategies and full texts are frequently scattered across browsers, drives and one-off workflows.

Approach

A local research service organises sources, projects, saved searches and source-grounded retrieval workflows.

Evidence

The service is used as active local research infrastructure.

Boundary

Access depends on lawful source availability and user entitlements; the system does not circumvent publisher controls.

Ventures Prototype platform As at 2026-07-31

Khwelero

A self-hosted deployment platform for teams that need greater control over where public-interest software runs.

Role Founder and platform developer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Small research and public-interest teams can face cost, sovereignty and operational barriers in managed hosting.

Approach

The platform explores a simpler self-hosted path for deploying and maintaining applications.

Evidence

Core platform components and deployment workflows are implemented for continued testing.

Boundary

Operational support, security assurance and general availability are not yet established.

Map of Time

A deterministic astronomy engine and three-dimensional explorer for navigating time and celestial relationships.

Role Creator and developer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Astronomical ideas become easier to inspect when calculations and spatial relationships share one interactive model.

Approach

Deterministic calculations, validation cases and an exploratory 3D interface are developed together.

Evidence

Core astronomical calculations have deterministic validation coverage.

Boundary

This is an exploratory educational and technical project, not an operational navigation system.

Catalogue of Human Problems

A graph-aware prototype for describing and prioritising linked human problems without treating them as isolated lists.

Role Creator and product developer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Problem catalogues often ignore dependencies, downstream effects and conflicts between priorities.

Approach

A graph model connects problem definitions, relationships and prioritisation signals.

Evidence

A working graph-oriented prototype supports continued concept testing.

Boundary

Prioritisation remains normative and context-specific; the prototype does not automate public value judgements.

Lab Pre-implementation As at 2026-07-31

CLOTHO

A pre-implementation concept for safer medicines reconciliation and clearer review of medication histories.

Role Clinical product researcher

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Medication histories are fragmented and reconciliation errors can persist across transitions of care.

Approach

The concept explores structured review, discrepancy surfacing and clinician-controlled reconciliation.

Evidence

Problem framing and prototype concepts exist for future validation.

Boundary

There is no clinical deployment, safety validation or regulatory claim.

Lab Creative experiment As at 2026-07-31

Sankofa City

An Afrofuturist browser-game experiment exploring narrative systems, place and creative technology.

Role Creator and developer

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Technical portfolios rarely create space for cultural imagination and interactive storytelling.

Approach

Browser-based game systems provide a small experimental canvas for narrative and world-building.

Evidence

A playable development project demonstrates the interaction concept.

Boundary

This is a creative experiment rather than a research or policy product.

Nutrition policy targeting and equity

A three-paper programme asking whether simplified, blanket nutrition targeting hides who is missed, and what more responsive targeting would cost.

Role Lead researcher and modeller

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

Nutrition and social-protection programmes are often simplified to blanket rules. That is operationally attractive, but it can conceal distributional and equity effects — who is missed, and when, by season, severity and setting.

Approach

Three linked pieces: a policy viewpoint making the conceptual case; a life-course child-nutrition microsimulation with cost-effectiveness analysis across country archetypes built from open data; and a systematic review with meta-analysis and limited individual-participant analysis.

Evidence

A completed viewpoint draft, a working microsimulation engine with calibration against published anchors, and a built review protocol. The model carries an internal parameter audit that separates sourced values from remaining scenario assumptions.

Boundary

Nothing in this programme is submitted, peer reviewed or published, and no cost-effectiveness number should be read as a finding. Several parameters remain scenario assumptions rather than fitted estimates, and the audit records them as such.

Food policy and market governance

A comparative study of how national food, gender and nutrition commitments survive — or evaporate — on the way to municipal market bylaws in Malawi and Kenya.

Role Lead researcher, working with co-authors across Malawi research and government institutions

Evidence and boundaries
Problem

National commitments on gender equity and nutrition frequently fail to reach the public markets where food is actually traded, because those markets are governed by council bylaws written largely for revenue and order.

Approach

A curated corpus of national and municipal policy instruments across Malawi and Kenya, analysed through a structured coding framework alongside transformer-based text representation, with independent second-coder reliability checks and explicit retrieval-status tracking for every source.

Evidence

A curated policy-document manifest with per-source retrieval status, an operational codebook, a second-coder reliability report, and two drafted comparative manuscripts.

Boundary

Both manuscripts are recorded internally as revise-before-submission; neither is submitted, peer reviewed or published. This is policy-architecture analysis, not measured effects on diets, prices or markets. Collaborator and institutional attribution is not published until each co-author and institution has confirmed permitted wording.
